Out of Africa:
A Journey from Kenya to Landmark

Wiki Home Page

Africa WaterHaul 100

For almost 2 years now, my nephew, Stephen, has been living in Nairobi, Kenya, working with young boys, keeping them in school, teaching them soccer and giving them hope. Each month, students from Landmark have been asking questions of Stephen about his life there. He has been responding to their questions, using the wiki we have created. Using the link under the photo, please stop in and see what students have learned.

Mrs. Rigby
Library Information Specialist

In Feb., members of the Mohr family and Mr. Rigby visited Stephen and many other places in Kenya. Check the wiki for more information and pictures.

Over Christmas Stephen's family visited with him for 2 weeks. On the wiki there is a page devoted to their visit.

(Mac users will need a VLC multi-codec file to view this movie)

At the close of the year, students responded to the year long project with Stephen. Their responses were put in a binder for Stephen to read. We also took their pictures as a class and created a memory book for Stephen, including some messages from the classes and responses from individual students.

Camel Library

In Sept., Landmark students raised over $1600 as part of a One-for-One Books project with Scholastic Book Fairs. With this money, students will be sending books to a Camel Library in Kenya. They also brought in enough money to purchase a camel for the library. Students will be creating class letters which will be inserted in each of the books, so that Kenyan students know where the books came from.

Along with that, we have 90 books that were sent to Burnett Elementary School in Galveston, Texas. The school lost all library and classroom library books due to Hurricane Ike. The school and district are very happy to receive our donation. We are also sent letters inside the books to the students of Burnett Elementary.
