Skin cleanliness, care and protection is essential to prevent MRSA.

1. Wash your hands often with warm soapy water. Scrub your hands for 20 seconds each time you wash. Use 60% alcohol-based hand getl when soap and water are not available.

2. Shower immediately after P.E. or use of a gym.

3. Cover all wounds with a clean, dry bandage taped on all four sides.

4. Stay home from school or work if wound drainage cannot be contained by a bandage.

5. Keep skin smooth and moist to prevent chafing and cracking. Your skin is your first layer of defense from invasion of germs.

6. Call your doctor if a wound on your skin is not healing or looking suspicious.

7. Do not overuse antibiotics.

Avoid the spread of MRSA.

    1. Do not touch anyone else's wounds.

     2. Take care not to touch any surfaces that may have MRSA on them, e.g. light switches, doorknobs, keyboards.

    3. Avoid sharing, sports equipment, personal hygiene items.

     4. Reports skin infections or suspicious rashes to the school nurse.

    5. Wipe down shared desks, keyboards, phones and light switches regularly.

 Let's keep our skin healthy!
