Principal's Message

  • Mr. Michael Glover, Principal

Welcome to McHenry Middle School!  My name is Mike Glover and I am beginning my fourteenth year working with the students, families, faculty, and staff at McHenry Middle School.  I began my educational leadership career in McHenry as the assistant principal for three years and am beginning my eleventh year as principal.  I appreciate the opportunity to help lead our school and have a strong sense of responsibility to ensure that our students are receiving quality instruction every day.  McHenry Middle School is a great place to learn and grow!  Our building is an excellent environment for learning and a great place for students to participate in activities.  We will challenge them academically, see them grow socially and emotionally, and support them in the many activities we offer.  As principal, I will continue my commitment to supporting our students as they work to become their best every day.  I am confident that if a student is engaged and involved in all the programs we offer they will be successful and prepared for high school.

Personally, I taught U.S. History at the high school level in Clinton, Iowa for nine years.  While teaching, I completed my master’s degree in educational leadership from Western Illinois University in July of 2009 and recently finished my doctorate in educational leadership from Concordia University in December of 2017.  Prior to teaching, I attended Iowa State University, where I met my wife Kristen.  We have two wonderful daughters; Addyson (16) and Mallory (13), who keep us busy and entertained as they are active in various activities.  In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, golf, and following my favorite sports teams.

Trojan Pride is something that is very easy to find and observe at MMS. From watching our dedicated teachers engage students in the classroom, to hearing our award-winning music programs practice, or walking through our nationally recognized STEM/STEAM studios, it isn't difficult to see why we are so proud of this school and our students. Our activities and clubs provide a variety of opportunities for students to get involved in their school community. We promote developing a growth mindset and provide social emotional learning guided by our Second Step curriculum.  Teachers utilize inquiry-based strategies to help students connect to the curriculum and have new textbooks/online resources for instruction in our social studies, science, and math classes!  MMS continues to implement literacy strategies across content areas for informational text, reading comprehension and fluency, as well as common written response structures. We continue to use STAR 360 testing to monitor student progress in math and language arts. In doing so, we are able to track academic growth throughout the year and identify areas of our curriculum that we need to reinforce during classroom instruction, as well as provide intervention.  Our teachers, along with the many opportunities offered by our classes and activities, offer students everything they need to have a successful school year.

Thank you for visiting our website and check back regularly for updates to keep you informed on all the events taking place at MMS.  Be on the lookout for email blasts, The Week Ahead every Friday, Facebook posts, as well as tweets from @mmstrojans.  We want to build a strong partnership between school and home, acknowledging that communication is key.  Please feel free to contact me via email, phone, or in person. I would enjoy the opportunity to discuss your students, our curriculum, or the many opportunities we offer here at MMS. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have a question or concern.  The sooner we know, the sooner we can help!

It’s a Great Day to be an MMS Trojan!
