Brooke Danz, a fifth grader from Riverwood Elementary, participated in the McHenry County Spelling Bee along with 11 other contestants from schools across the county and came out a champion! Brooke zipped through 31 rounds of difficult words including echt, novillero, rendezvous and hemerocallis. The word she spelled correctly to win the spelling bee was topeng. Brooke will now move on to participate in the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
