Mr. Rowlett

Hello, my name is Kevin Rowlett, and I am the music specialist here at Duker. I began my career here at Duker in 2014. I am an alum of District 15 and am happy to be teaching in my hometown. I attended McHenry County College for two years before transferring to Northern Illinois University. I graduated Cum Laude in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. I completed my ESL endorsement through Olivet Nazarene University in 2017, and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2020 with a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. In addition to teaching full time at Duker, I give private band lessons, and direct the Duker Performing Arts Club.

Outside of academics, I am an avid reader, weightlifter, and obstacle course racer. I like to push myself to my limits, and try to find new levels of enjoyment. I continue to geocache as well.

My philosophy is that all students are welcome in music and that music learning should be enjoyable, while maintaining a high level of quality. In class, we make use of a wide array of instruments, games, and activities to make learning fun. The Performing Arts Club focuses on higher-level performance practice and holds students to a high level of musicianship.

Ms. Crenshaw

Hi, my name is Melany Crenshaw and I am the current art teacher at Duker and Landmark schools. I am a graduate of Texas State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art and Education. My teaching career began in central Texas where I taught art at Ralph Pfluger Elementary. I moved to Schaumburg, Illinois in 2017 where I currently live with my family.

For fun, I enjoy making all types of art but my favorite is sculpting with clay and painting with watercolor. I also enjoy playing my Ukulele and being outdoors with my family and 3 dogs. My role as an Art Teacher is to create a learning environment that is safe for exploring and encouraging risks. I will help students develop skills in art production, criticism, history, and aesthetics. My success as an educator is measured by the ability to maintain a classroom that addresses the needs of all learners while building relationships with students, educators, parents, and community members
