2018-2019 VIKINGS VOLLEYBALL
City League Volleyball Program
City League Volleyball is open to any 6th grade girls and 7th and 8th grade girl that is not on our Fox Valley Conference team (tryout team). We also have boys’ volleyball for grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. City League is a short season that consists of nine practices and two games versus McHenry Middle School. The girls’ & boys' practices will be after school from 2:30-4:00.
The first City League practice will be on Thursday, September 6th. The games will be on Saturday, September 22nd at McHenry Middle School and Saturday, September 29 at Parkland. The times for these games are not set because they depend on the amount of students participating. However, the games will be in the morning.
There is no cost to participate in City League sports. The students will be asked to purchase a t-shirt to wear at their games. There will be no fee for the program but students are required to have a 2018-2019 Athletic Permission Form completed on Skyward through Parent Access by September 6. Please listen to announcements to find out how to sign up for City League Volleyball.
The City League coaches are Mrs. Ray and Mrs. Carvell.
7th and 8th Grade Conference Volleyball
Girls must tryout for the 7th and 8th grade teams, which will consist of 15 girls each. Girls interested in trying out are expected to attend both tryout dates. Members of the team are expected to attend practice every day after school. The coaches strive to allow all participants to have the opportunity to improve their skills and participate in games. During the season the teams compete against all the schools in the Fox Valley Conference. The 8th grade team also participates in an one day invitational tournament. On game days there will be two matches played at each grade level against the opposing school. Games are scored by a rally-point system, which means that a point can be earned at any time in the game, no matter who served the ball. Whoever reaches 25 points first, by a margin of at least two points, wins the game. The first team to win two games, wins the match. If a team wins the first two games, the final game is only played to 15 (margin also by 2 points). There is also a one day FVC tournament for 7th and 8th grades on October 14. The 8th grade coach is Mrs. McGary and the 7th grade coach is Mr. Thomas.
