Assessment For Learning
Assessment for learning is part of the McHenry District 15 Continuous Curriculum Model and provides teachers with timely data to be responsive to student learning needs and drive their instruction. Teachers are able to provide targeted feedback to students and empower students to be part of the teaching and learning process.
Formative Assessments
Formative assessments occur throughout the learning process and are designed to monitor student learning, providing teachers with feedback on each student's current level of mastery, allowing for responsive teaching. In addition, formative assessments should allow for two-way feedback (teacher to student and student to teacher) on student learning.
Summative assessments
Summative assessments provide evidence of learning and mastery of standards for all stakeholders at an end point of the learning. Although summative assessments are at the end of a unit instruction, students master concepts at varying rates. Additional learning opportunities and assessments are offered to students to allow for mastery throughout the school year.
Benchmark Assessments
Benchmark assessments are administered three times per year to assess a student’s current level of mastery and monitor growth in math and literacy. McHenry District 15's benchmark assessments are delivered through Renaissance Learning (STAR) three times per academic year.
