McHenry District 15's foreign language learning follows the Five Cs framework: communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities. Students engage in meaningful communication to develop language skills, explore diverse cultures, and foster intercultural competence, while also analyzing differences in language and culture, and actively participating in language communities locally and globally.
Key Learning Topics:
Grade 6 - (Multi-language experience) Introduction to new languages and cultures. Identifying commonalities in languages/exploring differences. Make connections to new cultures and communities. Effective strategies for learning a second language.
Grade 7 - (Spanish only) Basics of language, subject pronouns, gender/number agreement, definite/indefinite articles, effective strategies for learning a second language.
Grade 8 - (Spanish only) Basics of language, subject pronouns, expressing preferences, conjugation of present tense AR/ER/IR verbs, effective strategies for learning a second language.
