    McHenry District 15's music curriculum is aligned with the National Standards for Music Education. There are four main anchor standards McHenry District 15 targets for music instruction: 

    1. Creating: Allows students to create music to foster creativity and self-expression. 

    2. Performing: Provides opportunities for students to perform music to develop their musical skills and confidence. Different methods of performance can include solo performances, ensemble participation, and incorporating technology for digital performances.

    3. Connecting: Exploring the connections between music helps students understand the cultural and historical context of music, fostering a broader appreciation for the art form.

    4. Responding: Teaches students how to respond to music by perceiving, analyzing, and interpreting artistic work to enhance their critical thinking skills. 

    Key Learning Topics:

    • Creating: Students in District 15 create their own music with grade-appropriate methods.
    • Performing: Students in District 15 learn to present music in multiple ways, from in-class to on stage, according to grade level.
    • Connecting: Students in District 15 connect to the world of music by learning about music from other countries and in other languages.
    • Responding: Students in District 15 respond to music through listening, movement, writing, drawing, singing, and instrument playing.
