    Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
In District 15, we work in partnership with staff, families, students and our community to provide an education for our students that targets their academic and social emotional learning needs and prepares them for their future. District 15’s curriculum and instruction model provides a rigorous and relevant curriculum for all grade levels that is aligned with state standards to prepare students for success in a global society. Our curriculum is research-based and vertically aligned from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade and reviewed through a continuous improvement model. District 15 is committed to our students, staff and community to ensure today’s learners are tomorrow’s leaders.

    Rooted in Research
D15’s curriculum is rooted in educational research on curriculum, assessment, and teaching and learning. Our curriculum model ensures we have a guaranteed, viable curriculum. A guaranteed curriculum ensures every student is provided the opportunity to learn a core curriculum which provides them with a successful school experience. A viable curriculum ensures the necessary time is available and protected, so students will be able to learn the guaranteed curriculum.

    Continuous Curriculum Model
In District 15 we utilize a continuous curriculum model.  The continuous curriculum model provides a framework for curriculum and instruction and focuses on four guiding principles and questions.

    • What do we want all students to know and be able to do?

    • What instructional strategies will we use?

    • How will I know they have learned it?

    • How will we respond when they haven't learned it?  What will we do for those who already know it?

The continuous instruction model is designed to guarantee students have the knowledge and skills required for success in the 21st century. It also ensures that teachers maintain this focus throughout their instructional practices. The development and implementation of this framework results in:

    • Intentional alignment to standards

    • Clear learning outcomes with assessments

    • Engaging learning experiences

    • High-impact instructional strategies

    • Sequenced units of study that provide teachers with a detailed road map

    • Focus on the development of the whole child

In District 15, the Contonius Curriculum Model incorporates Rigorous Curriculum Design. Rigorous Curriculum Design provides our students with the learning experiences necessary to be prepared for the rest of their academic careers.  This model is the overarching process that incorporates all aspects of the district’s curriculum and instructional components. It provides an inclusive set of strategies fully aligned to standards with clear learning outcomes, assessments for learning, engaging learning experiences, and instructional strategies all organized into sequenced units of study.
